Course Summary
In recent years many enterprises have found that Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) offer cost-effective solutions to networking requirements of today's wired economy. Business-to-business communications must be secure, as must those between business and customer. Globalization has made communications between physically distant offices increasingly important. Telecommuting has become commonplace, thus requiring mechanisms for providing telecommuters access to internal resources from outside the company while ensuring that these communications remain secure. VPNs provide a cost-effective alternative to leased lines by tunneling communications securely over the public Internet.
