Course Description
This introduction to VPN-1™ /FireWall-1® NG provides students with the fundamental knowledge required to administer Check Point™ FireWall-1®/VPN-1™ installation. This information-packed course begins with a discussion of FireWall-1® technology and the role of firewalls and VPNs in the enterprise. It also includes extensive coverage of the new architecture and graphical interface, in addition to, creation of network objects and rulebases, and firewall logging and log management. The course ends with instruction about the methods of authenticating to a FireWalled gateway and implementing network address translation.
Who Should Attend
All Network Administrators and Security Professionals interested in learning the FireWall-1® product and features with a hands-on approach. Candidates for Check Point Certified Security Administrator (CCSA) certification will benefit greatly by attending this class. Certification testing is optional and must be registered for separately.
Prerequisites
Unix(Solaris) or Windows 2000 experience and knowledge of TCP/IP.
Course Outline
FireWall-1® Architecture
- Discusses basic firewall and VPN concepts, Stateful Inspection, and the basic components and architecture that comprise Firewall-1/VPN-1.
Security Policy RuleBase and Properties Setup
- Overview of rules and network objects, using the Policy Editor GUI to create objects and rules, and how policy properties create implied rules.
Administering Security Policy with the RuleBase
- Configuring anti-spoofing, remote management of security policy
Advanced Security Policy
- Using additional features of the Policy Editor GUI to hide and disable rules, uninstall security policy, and troubleshoot security policy administration
Log Management
- Using the Log Viewer GUI to view and filter log data, and block connections; features of the System Status GUI; administering logs from the command line
User Authentication
- Basic authentication concepts, creating and administering users, and configuring user authentication for supported services
Client and Session Authentication
- Client and Session authentication schemes, configuring client and session authentication, and troubleshooting authentication on Firewall-1/VPN-1
Network Address Translation
- NAT concepts and use, manual and automatic configuration of Static and Hide mode NAT, routing, ARP, and anti-spoofing issues, and troubleshooting NA
