Enhance your understanding of the additional security considerations that arise from participation in the Internet environment.

This is the final course in the AIX security suite. The first two are:

AIX Security I : Host-based Mechanisms (Q1341) focuses on methods for securing an isolated AIX system.
AIX Security II: Network Mechanisms (Q1342) focuses on providing security for a system that is part of an enterprise network.


Skills taught

Describe security considerations arising from connection to the Internet
Trace, filter, and log Internet Protocol (IP) traffic using a variety of mechanisms
List and describe important Internet security tools provided with AIX
Install, configure, and troubleshoot Internet Protocol Security (IPSec).
Set up Virtual Private Networks (VPN)
Modify configuration of network applications to meet Internet security requirements
Install and use the Secure Shell (SSH)
Set up Web server authentication
Describe the importance of cryptography to Internet security and apply this technology
Locate and use security resources available via the Internet


Audience

AIX system administrators and managers, managers of applications running on AIX-based systems, and administrators of networks that include AIX-based systems, who design, implement, or audit security for AIX systems and applications. Individuals implementing security on a UNIX system.


Prerequisites

You should complete:

AIX 5L System Administration I: Implementation (Q1314)
AIX 5L Configuring TCP/IP (Q1307)
AIX Security I: Host Mechanisms (Q1341)
AIX Security II: Intranet Mechanisms (Q1342)
or have equivalent knowledge and skills. You should have knowledge of AIX system administration, TCP/IP configuration in an AIX environment, and host-based and intranet-based AIX security mechanisms. You should also have some experience using a compiler.
